Brunnera macrophylla ‘Silver Spear’ is a striking perennial that adds a touch of elegance to shaded garden spaces. Its heart-shaped leaves are a luminous silver-white, veined and edged with green, creating a silvery mist effect that brightens darker corners. The foliage forms a dense, clump-forming mound, providing excellent ground cover. In early to mid-spring, the plant produces airy sprays of small, sky-blue flowers, reminiscent of forget-me-nots, which hover above the foliage on slender stems. This cultivar’s compact habit makes it ideal for use in borders, woodland edges, or as an accent plant in shade gardens.

‘Silver Spear’ thrives in moist, well-drained soils and prefers full to partial shade, making it an excellent choice for brightening up shaded areas. Its low-maintenance nature and resistance to pests and diseases make it a gardener’s favourite. The plant’s ability to naturalise over time adds to its appeal, creating a soft, flowing ground cover that complements other shade-loving perennials. Regular removal of spent flowers and occasional trimming of older leaves can help maintain its tidy appearance.
