Centranthus ruber Pretty Betsy, commonly known as Red Valerian or Jupiter’s Beard, is a versatile perennial that brings vibrant colour to gardens with its dense clusters of crimson, pink, or white flowers. The grey-green foliage provides an attractive backdrop, making it an excellent choice for borders, cottage gardens, and coastal settings.

Thriving in well-drained, chalky, or stony soils under full sun, Pretty Betsy is well-suited for UK gardens. Blooming from late spring through autumn, it complements other sun-loving plants, enhancing the seasonal palette. This hardy perennial is also drought-resistant once established, making it a low-maintenance addition to various garden settings.

Ideal for gardeners seeking long-lasting colour, Pretty Betsy can be grown in patio pots, along walls, or directly in garden beds. The slightly fragrant flowers are not only visually appealing but also attract pollinators, supporting local biodiversity.
