The Morello cherry is a classic variety, known for its deep, dark red to almost black fruit and tangy, sour flavour. Unlike sweet cherries, Morello cherries have a bold, tart taste, making them ideal for cooking, baking, and preserving. They are often used in pies, tarts, jams, and sauces, where their sharp flavour is balanced with sugar. The flesh of the Morello cherry is firm and juicy, with a deep red hue that reflects its intense taste. The tree itself is hardy and productive, thriving in cooler climates and providing a generous harvest of cherries late in the season.
