Darmera peltata, commonly known as Indian rhubarb, is a striking, hardy perennial prized for its dramatic foliage and architectural presence. Emerging in spring, it produces large, rounded, peltate leaves atop tall, sturdy stems, creating a bold structural feature in borders, woodland gardens, or near water features. In late spring to early summer, clusters of small pink flowers appear on tall, branched stems before the leaves fully unfurl, providing early-season colour and attracting pollinators.

Thriving in full sun to partial shade with moist, fertile, well-drained soil, Darmera peltata is hardy, low-maintenance, and long-lived. It prefers consistently damp conditions but tolerates occasional drying once established. Removing faded flower stems and old foliage helps maintain a tidy appearance. Its combination of architectural leaves, striking floral display, and wildlife value makes it an outstanding choice for dramatic garden planting and naturalistic schemes.
