Eucalyptus tetraptera is a handsome small to medium mallee, more shrub-like than tree, with an open, architectural habit and smooth grey to whitish bark that sheds in late summer and autumn to reveal a mottled underlayer. Its thick, leathery leaves frame the plants most striking feature: large, winged, square-shaped buds that develop from late winter and open to bright red to pink flowers through spring and summer. These showy blooms are followed by equally distinctive square gumnuts, attracting a range of pollinators. A hardy and unusual ornamental species, it grows well in containers, and older, straggly plants can be coppiced to ground level to promote fresh, vigorous new growth.

Soil: Well-drained soil. Will tolerate poor sandy soil.
Conditions: Full sun. Drought, heat, frost and coastal tolerant.
