Hosta ‘Gray Cole’ is a large, clump-forming perennial admired for its impressive size and striking foliage. The leaves are broad, heavily corrugated, and deep blue-green, with a thick substance that gives them durability and a strong architectural presence in shaded borders. Its bold form makes it ideal as a specimen plant or as part of a layered planting scheme, where it provides texture and contrast. The mature mound is imposing yet elegant, creating a focal point in woodland gardens or larger shade plantings.

In summer, tall scapes rise above the foliage bearing pale lavender to nearly white, funnel-shaped flowers. These add vertical interest and attract pollinators, extending the ornamental appeal beyond the foliage. Gray Cole thrives in rich, moist, well-drained soil and prefers partial to full shade, although it benefits from protection from hot midday sun to preserve its blue tones. With minimal care, regular watering, and slug protection in spring, it remains a dependable and long-lived feature in the garden.
