Hosta ‘The King’ is a striking large perennial that forms a bold, upright mound of heart-shaped leaves. The leaves are deep blue-green with irregular, wavy margins that start yellow and gradually turn creamy white as the season progresses. In mid to late summer, it produces tall spikes bearing pale lavender flowers, adding vertical interest to shaded garden spaces. This cultivar is a sport of Hosta ‘Sir Richard’, introduced by Jim Schwarz in 2007. It thrives in moist, well-drained soils and is ideal for shaded or partially shaded areas, making it a versatile addition to woodland gardens, borders, or containers.

Beyond its visual appeal, Hosta ‘The King’ offers ecological benefits by providing nectar for pollinators such as hummingbirds and bees. Its dense foliage also helps suppress weeds, reducing the need for chemical interventions. With minimal maintenance requirements, it is a reliable and long-lasting choice for gardeners seeking a low-maintenance yet striking plant for shaded areas.
