Mint ‘Grapefruit’ is a popular perennial herb, highly sought after for its refreshing and unique aroma. The primary part used for its culinary value is its fuzzy, bright green leaves, which provide a clear and tasty flavour that is often described as a perfect mix between cool mint and sharp, citrusy grapefruit. This distinct profile makes it an excellent choice for infusing teas, crafting cocktails, flavouring jellies, and adding a fresh note to fruit salads. The plant’s small, attractive purplish-pink flowers are also edible and make a lovely garnish.

When it comes to planting and maintenance, this is an easy-to-grow, spreading perennial that is very adaptable. It is not fussy about its light conditions and will thrive in locations with either full sun or partial shade. The main requirement for it to grow well is providing it with soil that is kept consistently moist. Like all mints, it is highly invasive, so it is crucial to plant it in a container or use root barriers to prevent it from spreading and taking over the garden. As an added benefit, its attractive flowers are known to be very popular with pollinators.
