Mint ‘Thai’ is a popular perennial herb, highly prized for its essential role in Southeast Asian cuisine. The primary part used for its culinary value is its aromatic leaves, which provide a powerful, pungent, and slightly sharp spearmint-like flavour that is distinct from common Western mints. This robust profile is a key ingredient in dishes like fresh spring rolls, larb, and various salads. The plant’s attractive, small purplish-pink flowers that appear in spikes are also edible and can be used as a garnish.

When it comes to planting and maintenance, this is an easy-to-grow, spreading perennial that is extremely adaptable. It is not fussy about its light conditions and will thrive in locations with either full sun or partial shade. The main requirement for it to grow well is providing it with soil that is kept consistently moist. It is critical to note that this mint is highly invasive, so it must be planted in a container or with root barriers to prevent it from spreading. As an added benefit, its attractive flowers are known to be very popular with pollinators.
