Papaver orientale Central Park is a dramatic oriental poppy with large, deep plum-purple blooms that create a bold and sophisticated display in early summer. Each flower is centred with a dark blotch and prominent black stamens, adding striking contrast to the velvety petals. The flowers are carried on tall, sturdy stems above a base of coarse, hairy green foliage, making it an excellent focal point in borders where strong colour is desired.

This hardy perennial thrives in well-drained soil and prefers a sunny position, where it will reliably produce its eye-catching blooms year after year. It is fully hardy in the UK and requires very little attention apart from cutting back after flowering to encourage fresh regrowth. Loved by pollinators and valued for its architectural seed pods, Papaver orientale Central Park is a superb choice for adding drama and elegance to both traditional and modern planting schemes.
