Papaver orientale Watermelon is a striking oriental poppy, admired for its large, vibrant coral-pink blooms with a darker central blotch. The ruffled, cup-shaped flowers rise on tall, sturdy stems above coarse, hairy green foliage, creating a bold and eye-catching display in early summer borders. Its lively colour and upright habit make it a standout in cottage gardens, mixed perennial beds, and larger planting schemes.

This hardy perennial thrives in well-drained soil and prefers a sunny position, returning reliably year after year. Fully suited to the UK climate, it requires minimal maintenance beyond cutting back after flowering to encourage fresh foliage. Its nectar-rich blooms attract pollinators, adding ecological value, while the long-lasting flowers provide both ornamental and seasonal interest. Papaver orientale Watermelon combines vibrant colour with architectural form, making it a dependable and striking addition to summer garden displays.
