Papaver orientale ‘Rococo’, commonly known as the Oriental Poppy ‘Rococo’, is a striking herbaceous perennial that adds bold colour to garden borders and beds. Its large, deep pink flowers with dark central blotches create a dramatic focal point, standing tall on bristly stems above finely divided, silvery-green foliage. Blooming from late spring to early summer, this poppy is a standout feature in any planting scheme, bringing a rich, textured appearance to cottage and informal gardens.

Thriving in well-drained, fertile soil under full sun, ‘Rococo’ is a hardy and resilient perennial that returns year after year. Regular watering during the growing season encourages healthy growth, but watering should be reduced once flowering has finished. Deadheading spent flowers can promote further blooming, while cutting back foliage after flowering helps rejuvenate the plant. As its tall stems can become heavy with blooms, staking may be beneficial in more exposed garden settings.

An excellent choice for pollinator-friendly gardens, Papaver orientale ‘Rococo’ attracts bees and butterflies with its large, nectar-rich flowers. It works well in mixed borders alongside other perennials and looks particularly striking when planted in groups. Its blooms also make a stunning addition to cut flower arrangements, bringing their dramatic beauty indoors. With its combination of vivid colour, elegant form, and minimal maintenance needs, ‘Rococo’ is a fantastic perennial for adding impact to garden displays.
