Passiflora Victoria is one of the oldest known passion flower cultivars, known for attracting butterflies and for its distinctly shaped blossoms, with spreading purple tepals and a dark corona with emerging white-tipped filaments – they will appear each year from summer into autumn. The round, multicoloured centre of the flower is thought to aid bees and other pollinators in finding the nectar. Following the flowering period, orange fruit that are edible when ripe will emerge – the flavour profile is described as a sharp tartness.

This gorgeous climbing vine is evergreen and winter hardy up to -8 C, therefore in colder regions it may be grown best in a large container. It can then be moved into a conservatory or a greenhouse over the coldest months so you can enjoy its rich foliage year-round.

Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.

PASSIFLORA VICTORIA

Passiflora ‘Victoria’ is a vigorous, twining passionflower prized for its exotic-looking blooms and handsome foliage, ideal for training against a warm, sheltered wall, fence or pergola. This climber requires a suitable support to establish and grow. Provide sun or light shade and moderately fertile, well-drained soil; tie in young shoots and prune lightly in late winter or early spring to remove any winter damage and to keep growth within bounds. When well sited and trained, it can reach approximately 35m in height and spread around 23m across its support over time.

This climbing plant has been trained onto a supporting frame to create a neat, well-shaped specimen that is ready for planting. As it grows, new shoots can be guided and secured to continue developing its natural shape.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
