Phygelius rectus Funfare Wine, commonly known as Cape Fuchsia or Cape Figwort, is a compact, evergreen shrub that brings a touch of exotic elegance to gardens. Its bushy form is adorned with simple, ovate leaves, providing a lush green backdrop to the striking floral display. From June through September, the plant produces large panicles of tubular, wine-red flowers that nod gracefully from upright stems, adding vibrant color and architectural interest to borders and containers.

Thriving in fertile, moist but well-drained soil under full sun, Phygelius Funfare Wine is well-suited for UK gardens. It appreciates shelter from cold, drying winds and benefits from a dry winter mulch to protect its roots during colder months. Regular deadheading of spent flowers encourages continuous blooming throughout the summer and into early autumn. This cultivar’s compact size makes it an excellent choice for smaller gardens, patios, or as a focal point in mixed borders.

Ideal for gardeners seeking long-lasting summer color, Phygelius Funfare Wine can be grown in patio pots or directly in garden beds. Its vibrant wine-red flowers are not only visually appealing but also attract pollinators, supporting local biodiversity. Additionally, the blooms make excellent cut flowers, allowing you to bring their beauty indoors. With its low-maintenance nature and extended flowering period, this Cape Fuchsia cultivar is a valuable addition to various garden settings.
